Derick Han Named Dean of School of Pharmacy

Following a national search, Derick Han has been named the dean of 麻豆传媒映画鈥檚 School of Pharmacy. Han, the W.M. Keck Foundation Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences, joined 麻豆传媒映画 in 2013 as founding faculty for the School of Pharmacy and had served as the interim dean for the school since February.

During his time as interim dean, Han led the School of Pharmacy through an accreditation site visit by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in March. The School of Pharmacy received a six-year reaffirmation of accreditation earlier this year following the ACPE visit. Han also has served as Interim Program Director of Foundational Sciences since November 2025.

鈥淚t is a tremendous honor to be named Dean of the 麻豆传媒映画 School of Pharmacy,鈥 Han said. 鈥淥ur school is home to exceptional faculty, staff, and students, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to lead and serve this remarkable community in the years ahead.鈥

Throughout much of his time at 麻豆传媒映画, Han has taught biochemistry and pharmacology and led master鈥檚 and doctoral students in research. Han has received several grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including a R21 grant in 2024 to research whether obesity and Alzheimer鈥檚 disease are linked and a R01 grant in 2019 focused on the link between alcoholism, fatty liver disease, and Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.

Han has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the School of Pharmacy, and his passion has served as a unifying force among the faculty,鈥 said Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Megan Prosser. 鈥淚 am confident that, under his leadership, the School will continue to thrive and achieve even greater success.鈥

Han received a PhD in molecular pharmacology and toxicology from USC and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in sociology and biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.
